His paws hit the ground with a hurried sense. The branches scratched and grabbed at his fur, but he kept on going. The pain in his flank burdened him, but he kept up. In the end he collapsed, blood seeping into the ground around him. The light dieing from his eyes. The enemy stalked closer, but the wolf struggled to his paws and kept running, the lose of blood slowing him. He had to warn the Light, he knew the truth to what was coming, he had to tell them! But his dying time was soon, he could feel it. He ran on, despite for someone to find him. Someone from the Light. His name is Wave Thorn. His whole life he'd been studying the Lost Souls, the wolves who'd been turned into stones with ruby red eyes. One by one they broke free, only a few though. He had names for each of them. The leader, Coal, the sidekick, Arck, the wanderer, Whisper, the killer, Captain, the thinker, Ranger, the assassin, Prince, the bad-tempered, Rage, the evil heart, King, and the savage, Legend. But those were not their real names. Coal was really Sting. Arck was really Viper. Whisper was really Snake. Captain was really Poison. And Ranger, well Ranger was Killer. The others it mattered not to Wave Thorn, they were dead. They wouldn't be coming back, he knew the Spirits wouldn't allow it. He raced on knowing Poison was chasing him, he could feel her breath on his back he was going to die. He knew it. So he slowed and turned to face Poison. He leaped at her but she waved her tail and Zelda, whose real name is Terror, jumped at him and tore at his neck and flank. Wave Thorn last words were, The Light will find you, they will kill off you're whole pack!
You fool! snarled Poison, her malice slapping Terror in the face. We needed him alive! He knew things that could have made us immortal! Invincible! And because of your idiotic actions, all that dies with him! Poison was still worked up with her battle with Killer. She was still made at Sting for exiling her from the Light. But that was the thing, Killer was being Ranger and Sting was becoming Coal. They were leaving their dark hearts of stone behind. She was Poison, she'd never be Captain again. And as for Terror, she was turning toward her pet name, Zelda.
Zelda looked away from Captain and sighed. She had killed Wave Thorn because she wanted those secrets to die. Without them Captain would fail in her quest to take over the world. The Light had a better chance of winning, now that Wave Thorn was dead and his secrets hadn't been told to Captain. Zelda's brown fur was smeared with Wave's blood and she desperately wanted to wash it off. It reminded her of the crime she committed when she killed him. It was necessary, but she still felt the guilt.
Regal stepped forward, his broad shoulders shoving past Captain. He stood in front of Zelda, his sister. He snarled, Leave her alone, Poison. If you must pick on someone, pick on me. Regal, or Snarr, was too big for Captain to take on. She knew that, so Poison, or the wolf we know as Captain, merely snarled and then shouldered her way through the rest of the pack. Regal looked at his sister and licked her nose. We'll get through this, little sister.

Swift raced forward, she had taken the long way around hoping to cut off their target. She wondered if Poison had even realized she was gone, as her dark silver flecked fur brushed against a tree. She preffered the name Swift over her true name, Death, she thought it suited her better, for she was faster than the others not deadlier as her true name insinued. Her thoughts snapped back to her mission as she heard the snapping of twigs in front of her.

Regal looked at Wave Thorn's mangled body. He whispered to his sister, You did well, now Poison will not know of his secrets. His red eyes glowed with gratitude. Regal felt bad for his little sister. He knew that she wanted to know the secrets Wave Thorn had to share. The stories of Wave Thorn said that he knew how the red eyes could change their eye colors. Regal knew that Zelda wanted to do that very much, for she hated having the red eyes of an evil wolf. She wasn't like Captain, that was for sure.
Zelda sighed. But guilt overwhelms me, brother. Her eyes searched Regal's face looking for the same guilt she felt. But she knew he didn't share it. She looked behind her. The rest of the pack was already walking away with Poison, no doubt in the lead. She wondered where Swift had gotten to. She loved the other she-wolf like her sister, they both had the same thoughts on Captain. They both knew she was an evil spirit. She was going to ask Regal, but decided against it.
did what had to be done, Regal said with a frown. Despite what Zelda thought, Regal did feel a sense of guilt. They had just murdered another wolf in cold blood. He hung his head a bit and then brushed his muzzle against Zelda's neck. Do not despair, little sister His gentle gaze locked with her sorrow filled eyes. Wave Thorn is in a better place now, no evil spirit can haunt him now. He licked her nose to comfort her. Now, he said, straightening up. We must catch up with Captain before she thinks we're up to something.

Swit stepped through the brush and looked down at Wave Thorns body and then back up to Zelda and Regal and gave a short answer for where she was I overshot my circle... So which one of you killed him? She had killed far too much to have any feeling of guilt for the death of another wolf, and she hated that...

Zelda replied to her friend, Swift, it was I. But he is in a better world now. She gazed into Swift's eyes and then sighed. She began to walk back, back towards Poison. Her paw steps wary. Then a sudden knowing hit her and she stumbled. She turned to her brother and Swift. I know the secret! she breathed softly, so only her brother and Swift could hear.

Swift nodded I wondered when you would realize what Wave Thorn did... I know it as well... Swift thought for a moment Regal, do you know it as well?

Regal inclined his head to the right and searched for the memory. Indead he did have it. He slowly nodded his head. His eyes dulled, We must be careful whom we talk to now, for if the slightest bit of knowing shows Captain will kill us. Then he turned to so he could see both Zelda and Swift. If something happens to me, I want you two to go to the Light and tell them what you know. When his sister looked about to protest he inturupted her, Do I have your words that you will do as I ask?
Zelda felt a sense of warning in her, and as she slowly, sadly, shook her head yes, she felt her heart sink. With hopelessness and sorrow. She looked into her brother's eyes and a small tear rolled down the side of her face. She shook her head so Swift wouldn't see. But there was no need, for she knew Swift wouldn't call her weak, she'd cried in front of her friend before. Just now didn't seem like a time to loose it in front of Swift and her brother.
The wolf's true name was Crag, his pet name was Quail. His brown fur helped him to blend in with the surounding forest. He watched as Snarr, Terror, and Death talked quietly. He heard Zelda whisper something. He couldn't hear her, but he read her mouth. She had said that she knew the secret. So did Death and Snarr. They were turning toward their pet names, Zelda, Regal, and Swift. Crag cursed under his breath. He melted back into the forest and raced through the trees, hurrying to catch up with Poison, who had long since turned away from being Captain.
Stone, the grey wolf's true name, straightened up. Her body tensed as the brown wolf leaped through the under brush. She was about to pounce when she recoganized Crag. She leaped down in front of him and asked, Did you find them? She snarled when he asked who wanted to know. Poison you moron! she spat. Breeze was her true name, she liked it, but her heart was of Stone, so she stuck with that. She was not a Light wolf and wondered if it was possible for her to be Breeze without turning to the Light. She supposed not, and she didn't dare ask Poison for the fear of becoming dinner held her too tightly. She said to Crag, Fine! If you won't talk to me, go see Poison, she's in her den. Be warned though, she's in a bad mood, since she was kicked out of the Light before she could gain the knowledge she needed. It's all Killer's fault she says.

Swift stubbornly shook her head I will not run away if their is something I can do to help you... Her red eyes glittered with passion I will not let one of my two friends die when there is some way of saving them.

Regal sighed. I am going to try to avert the attention of the pack while you two steal away. You must get to the Light, it's their only hope. Please Swift, do this for me. It's my last wish for you two. His eyes glittered with liquid sorrow. He looked at Zelda and whispered, I will love you forever, I want you to know that, sister. He smiled and licked her nose when she nodded. Now, go, both of you. Long live the Light!

Swift looked away angrily trying to hide her tears Regal, why dont you just come with us? She was choking on her words What I'm trying to say is three of us stand more of a chance than you alone, or should you not be able to hold them off long enough, I know that we wouldnt be able to take them all on... Realising her her attempts to sway him where useless she hung her head and started towads the light stopping a short distance away to wait for Zelda

Zelda gazed upon her brother one last time, then walked sadly after Swift. Her tail drooped and when she looked back, Regal was gone. She choked on a sob. He was the one she loved, more then anyone. She'd never had anyone in mind for a mate. Regal was the one she loved as the brother he was. Now he was going to die, and she'd never see him again. He was dieing for the Light, for her and Swift. She guessed that was a good reason, better then what Arck had died for. She missed him, his cheery smile and his gentle eyes. She'd avenge his death though, Poison and the other red eyes would die. Zelda would make sure that the one who killed Regal would die under her paws. She thought, that would either be Stone, or Crag. Or maybe Shock or Nightmare.
Crag lay in wait for Regal. When the brown wolf walked into camp he sprang, his teeth digging into Regal's back. Crag held him while Stone raced in from the side, her teeth pulling a chunk from Regal's flank. Then Shock, tore at Regal's feet and hips. Then Nightmare, clawed at the brown wolf's face. Crag, on the gesture of Poison, let go and Regal crumpled to the ground. Poison nodded and Crag's teeth sunk into Regal's neck. For a moment the wolf struggled, that stopped when Crag tore out most of the flesh around Regal's neck. The wolf made a gurgling sound, then his head hit the ground, making a brief cloud of dust hover in the air. Regal was dead.

Swift ran through the undergrowth making sure Zelda was still behind her. Zelda, Regal will not die in vain... He will live on, with Wave Thorn...

I will avenge my brother's death, none the less. replied Zelda shortly. Her legs had no trouble keeping up with Swift. They were a rather good pair. Zelda had the keen silent movements, and Swift had the long running legs, it was a wonder the two had never hunted together, but she knew that if they were to survive long enough to get to the Light they'd have to.
